Today Google launched a way for you to stay in the loop for what your child explores on an Android device.
Google Family Link allows you to create a Google Account for your kid that’s is similar to a real Google Account, but lets you set certain digital ground rules.
- Manage the apps your children can use.
You can approve and block apps your children may want to download. So sure, let them have Angry Birds, but stay away from Five Nights at Freddy’s.
- Monitor their screen time.
Get reports for weekly or monthly reports. Then if you find it being too much, set a daily screen time limit on the device.
- Even set up a bed time for their device!
With this feature you can remotely lock your child’s device. Time for practice? Lock it. Time to study? Lock it. Time for Bed? Lock it!
Now to get started it is by invitation only to parents with children under 13 years old. here is what you will need to get started:
- Create a Google Account for your kid through Family Link
- A Compatible Android Device for you child.
- Your own Android Device
- Your own Google Account
- To be in the U.S.
Now as of right now it seems to be only in the U.S., but with Google we know it can change at any time. Take some time and swing by their Tips for Family Section too, and get some great advice.
So if you have children under 13 years old, go request an invite and help take control of Screen Time and Online Exploration. Make it an adventure for both of you:).
